Frequently Asked Questions

What type of publishing model does Franklin Publishers follow?

Franklin Publishers is an independent, traditional publisher. We acquire and invest in works we believe in, and we cover the costs of editing, design, production, and distribution. We do not offer paid publishing packages or self-publishing services.

No. Authors do not pay Franklin for publishing services. We finance the editorial and production process and recoup our investment through book sales.

Your submission is reviewed by our editorial committee. If your manuscript shows promise and aligns with our publishing program, we will request the full manuscript for further consideration. We cannot provide individual feedback on every submission due to volume.

For accepted titles, the timeline from acquisition to publication typically ranges from twelve to eighteen months. This includes developmental editing, copyediting, design, production and marketing preparation.

As a publisher, we provide baseline marketing and publicity support aligned with our publishing program. We present titles to booksellers, librarians and trade outlets and coordinate basic media outreach. Authors seeking additional marketing or publicity services may engage independent providers such as Artisans, but this is optional and separate from our publishing agreement.

We consider previously self‑published work on a case‑by‑case basis. If your work has achieved significant readership or critical acclaim, please include details in your cover letter.

Franklin Publishers focuses on English‑language editions. Translation and international rights are negotiated separately; if appropriate, we work with rights agents to secure translation partners.

For accepted works, we typically acquire world English‑language rights. Other rights, such as audio, translation or film, are negotiated individually and may remain with the author.

No. We accept submissions directly from authors. Having an agent is not required, but representation can be beneficial for negotiating contract terms.
