FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Explore common questions about Franklin ScreenRunway, the adaptation process, ownership, development pathways, and what happens when your story begins moving beyond the page.

Do I need a screenplay before applying for ScreenRunway?

No. Franklin can begin by evaluating the underlying book or literary property. If screenplay development is required, it can become part of the recommended development pathway.

Not necessarily. The appropriate starting scope depends on the type of property and what the first production needs to accomplish. Some stories may begin with a focused proof of concept, short, or animated sequence, while others require more development.

Franklin may participate in the development of selected projects. The level and form of Franklin participation depend on the strength of the property, adaptation requirements, commercial opportunity, available resources, and approved project structure.

Every ScreenRunway project requires some form of author runway participation. Additional project capital may potentially come through sponsorship, crowdfunding, or other approved sources where appropriate.

Yes. Authors participating in ScreenRunway retain 100% ownership of their underlying intellectual property.

Franklin receives only the project-specific permissions required to provide agreed development, production, promotion, cross-publishing, distribution, or commercial services.

Creator-first projects are generally developed around the author’s own audience and digital accounts.

Depending on the project, content may also be cross-published, featured, or promoted through Franklin’s developing network, including Franklin Studios, Franklin Vault, Franklin Junior, and Franklin Lens.

Can my adaptation make money?

Potential revenue pathways may include platform monetization, memberships, audience support, sponsorship, crowdfunding, distribution, licensing, and other commercial opportunities. Eligibility and performance vary by platform and project, and Franklin does not guarantee monetization or specific financial results.

Franklin can help develop selected properties toward larger industry opportunities when their creative and commercial foundation justifies that stage. No specific studio, streamer, distributor, or acquisition outcome can be guaranteed.

Franklin’s strongest direct resources currently include development, animation, visual production, audio, post-production, and digital media.

For projects requiring physical live-action filming, Franklin may support development, planning, packaging, creative direction, and producer-side coordination while working with appropriate external production resources.

Not automatically.

ScreenRunway is a separate media-development pathway requiring its own approved scope and applicable agreement.

An author’s standard literary evaluation or book-publication arrangement should not be confused with an optional media-production investment.

Franklin reviews the property and the author’s adaptation objectives.

If the property appears suitable for further development, Franklin discusses possible formats, development requirements, and the most appropriate initial runway.

A project-specific scope is prepared only after the direction and resource requirements have been evaluated.
